Unvarnished: plain; clear; straightforward; without vagueness or subterfuge; frank.

Knaves:  a dishonest or unscrupulous man.

" When the governor of an American state turns out to be a man of ability and honesty it is a mirable indeed, and of a very rare sort, for most American governors are shabby and scurvy politicians, and some of them are obvious knaves."

Dr. Laura and the use of the "N" word.

After listening to the actual call, and the way the conversation took place, I do to a certain extent agree with Dr.Laura. I understand the point she was trying to prove, but the way she went about it might not have been the best. It's obvious that some people still take offense to the word, even when it's not meant to be offensive. Dr.Laura didn't know her caller well enough (or the listeners) to make those types of remarks and expect people not to get offended. It was evident that Dr.Laura wasn't trying to be offensive, she was only trying to prove that the word shouldn't still be a national controversy. But Dr.Laura can't put an end to racism, and racial slurs in one radio talk show. Even though a the word is used so often, and a majority of the time used without offense, it started off offensive which a lot of people still hold to be true.
